Interview with President of the Jewish Community of Melilla

Mabati (Mi Mirada)
For Mordejay Guahnich
This time we interviewed D. Salomon Benzaquen Cohen, an economist by profession and spent many years to community work, currently president of the Jewish Community of Melilla.

Q: Mr. Solomon all know that for many years working for the Kehilá of Melilla. How old?
R: I started in 1990 as president D. David Oaknin

Q: What has held positions in their various policies.
R: I started with the nursery, through youth, vice-treasurer, treasurer, vice president and the last time as president

P: you currently president of our community, but is nearing completion of its mandate When?
R: As you know in the August 2008 meeting, the commitment was to deliver the completed building, and Bizrate Hashem that is 1 March and this week we will make the transfer of power.

P: This term has been of great change, we might even qualify as revolutionary (in a good sense of the word). What has been the main project?
R: understand that has been the reform of the building and the beginning of the journey from high school Sephardic "DAVID Melul."

P: As you say, the reform of the high school building and have been the main, through financial support from some people. Who should be to thank?
R: Kehilá People have donated from our rooms, reform of the mikvah, curtains to manual labor. In Caracas was also received help. The family made their contribution in figure D. Cohen and Ms. Saadia And as we all know the invaluable assistance of D. David Melul ZL was crucial for the project.

P: Another of these great project has been the graveyard like the idea and what has been its development.
R: The idea began two brothers Moses and with David Mordejay Guahnich Obadía. The idea was culminated with the contribution of the family Benzaquen de Madrid and has been developing over three years, as the deterioration is not stopped and we must continue the ongoing repair work.

P: As in all together, there are changes of managers, some will fall by the wayside and new ones become part of this policy, I would tell them.
R: That part of an EU directive and work for your Kehilla is a great honor and that the renewal of individuals is required given how demanding and time to be devoted to it.

Q: Some mention especially someone who has worked with you as a member of its board
R: not belittle anyone, they all add up, I have to mention my most faithful collaborator, Ms. Dona Esther Bitter Azancot, Sephardic High School alma mater.

Q: Some people has not been part of the policy but want to thank him publicly.
R: Many people at some point you have offered help and advice and to list them would be forgotten and I would not. Therefore all of them thank you very much.

P: Like everything in life is less good moments, which have been for you while he's been president.
R: was undoubtedly the worst week I lived between Melilla and Barcelona with the death of d. David Melul ZL

Q: What advice would you give to his successor in office as president
R: That surround himself with a good staff and delegate tasks to share community work.

P: What would you say to the members of our Kehilá.
R: That will help the EU directive because the work is wide and varied and the time is short.

Q: Anything else to add
R: Remember to Kehilá the suggestion box is at your disposal for whatever you deem appropriate.

thank D. Salomon Benzaquen agreeing to be interviewed. Justice would not be complete here, so let me offer a word of recognition. Solomon
besides being a great friend, has been a person who has consistently supported unconditional Mem Gimel from our first steps, one of our most loyal followers, continually encouraging us to continue working for Hebrew culture and our Kehilá, present in all events and acts that we have made. Mem Gimmel
Since we would like to wish all of Beraja and Hazlajá in this new phase of your life, you start when you stop being president of our community, you will definitely be missed. You knew to be a president for all Kehilá, without distinction, have the door open to any member, listening to advice and suggestions, keeping the bar high as representative to the society and authorities, a faithful follower of the work of the presidents who preceded you. Solomon
